Free haemoglobin test camp organised by Students’ Health Care Centre of RMC
March 1: A free haemoglobin test camp for the students of Radhamadhab College (RMC), Silchar was organised by its Students’ Health Care Centre on Monday. The haemoglobin test camp was organised by the college in active collaboration with Red Ribbon Club and Lions Club of Silchar Lioness.
A hemoglobin test measures the levels of hemoglobin in the blood. Hemoglobin is a protein in the red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body. If the hemoglobin levels are abnormal, it may be a sign that one may have a blood disorder. A hemoglobin test is often used to check for anemia, a condition in which the body has fewer red blood cells than normal.
Prior to the beginning of the haemoglobin test camp, an inaugural programme was organised by the Students’ Health Care Centre of RMC in its auditorium which was presided over by Dr Debashish Roy, Principal of the college. IQAC Coordinator Dr Sonali Choudhury, Convenor of Students’ Health Care Centre Dr Ashima Roy, President of Lions Club of Silchar Lioness Nalini Purkayastha, its Secretary Sheli Taluqdar and Project Chairman Shibani Chakraborty. Dr Ashima Roy, Convenor of the Students’ Health Care Centre delivered the welcome address, which was followed by relevant speeches by the dignitaries.
In the camp, the haemoglobin test was don for a total of 60 students (56 female and 4 male). Out of the 60 students. only 4 of them were found to have their haemoglobin level below 5, whereas the level of others were above 10. Dr Arundhuti Dutta Choudhury, Head, Dept of English, Assistant Professors Dr Piya Das, Dr Sumita Bose and other faculty members actively cooperated to make the camp a grand success.
It needs mention here that since its inception in 2003, the Students’ Health Care Centre of RMC has been organising various awareness and health check up programmes, blood donation camp etc. apart from regular health check up of the students. This year in the month of February, regular health check up of more than 500 students were done in the college by Dr Arkojyoti Saha and Dr Rajdeep Das.
