Former Principal of GC College & senior BJP leader Partha Chanda passes away

May 19: In a sad turn of events, senior BJP leader of Cachar and former Principal in-charge of GC College, Silchar, Partha Sarathi Chanda breathed his last on Wednesday late evening.  He was about 72. As per initial reports, he died due to a sudden cardiac arrest. He taught English at GC College for around three decades and was also the departmental head for a quite long time. He was very popular both among his students and also in the political circle for his courtesy. He in the past was even a member of the BJP National Executive.

Dr Rajdeep Roy expressed deep condolence at the demise of his favourite teacher Partha Sarathi Chanda. Dr. Roy said, “I was his direct student in GC College from 1987-89. He was an expert in the art of debate. Sir was indeed a gentleman even in the political arena. His death is a great loss to us.”

Meanwhile, sources in the Cachar BJP informed that his body will be kept in the party office at Itkhola, Silchar at 6.30 in the morning for people to pay their last tribute .
