Former BJP leader Yashwant Sinha joins Trinamool ahead of Assembly elections
March 13: Just ahead of the West Bengal Assembly Elections, 2021, former veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha on Saturday joined the Trinamool Congress at its party headquarters in Kolkata in the presence of Rajya Sabha MPs Derek O’Brian and Santanu Sen.
Sinha said he decided to join the party after the recent “attack” on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on March 10. “The tipping point was the attack on Mamataji in Nandigram. It was this moment that I decided to join TMC and support her,” he said. Elaborating further, the veteran politician said, “Important institutions are in crisis and this is a very serious threat to our democracy. Our farmers are sitting on the roads but nobody bothers. Even the judicial systems have become weak now.”
“We are extremely glad to receive such an illustrious politician like Yashwant Sinha in the Trinamool Congress. Today we are feeling proud that on one hand we have a leader like Mamata Banerjee and on the other we have such senior politician like Yashwant Sinhaji,” said Subrata Mukherjee.
