First shipment of COVID-19 vaccine for Assam & Meghalaya arrives in Guwahati
Jan. 12: The first batch of coronavirus vaccine for Assam and Meghalaya has arrived in Guwahati on Tuesday evening. SpiceJet flight no SG 7451 carrying the consignment took off from Pune on Tuesday morning and reached Guwahati in Assam at around 5 pm on the same day.
The consignment weighing over 700 kilogrammes comprised 20 boxes containing 12 thousand doses each reached the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport. Each of the 20 boxes of the vaccine contains 12000 doses of vaccine. As per initial reports, 17 boxes are for Assam and rest three are for Meghalaya.
Taking to his twitter handle, Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma wrote, “First shipments of #COVID19 Vaccine touch down at Guwahati Airport today. #Meghalaya will roll-out the #COVIDVaccination drive from 16th Jan 2021 using #CovishieldVaccine for Phase I. Gratitude to Hon’ble PM @narendramodi Ji & Hon’ble Health Minister @drharshvardhan Ji.”

The first phase of COVID-19 vaccination will start across the country on 16 January, 2021. The vaccine will be administered to over three crore frontline workers. The vaccines will be placed in cold storage facility until its distribution.
