Final journey of former CM Tarun Gogoi begins, vast multitude bids tearful adieu

Nov. 26: With the demise of former Chief Minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi, an epoch in the politics of the state came to an end. However, the end was a memorable one to be remembered by posterity. The final journey of the mortal remains of the veteran Congress leader in a big flower-decorated lorry with many pictures of Tarun Gogoi. Earlier, Dolly Gogoi, wife of former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi bid a tearful adieu to her late husband at the latter’s official residence in Guwahati.

From there, the body was taken to the Sixth Mile Church and then the vehicle moved towards Naam Ghar (Vaishnavite temple) in Zoo Road at around 12 noon. The procession will be heading towards the mosque at Ambari and then via Ugratara temple will be brought to Navagraha Crematorium in Silpukhuri area of Guwahati for the last rites to be performed.

Elaborate arrangements have already been done at the Navagraha crematorium. A LED screen has been set up so that everyone can view the last rites of their beloved leader.

The veteran Congress leader breathed his last at 5.34 PM on Monday in Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH). He was 86. The three-time CM has been on life-support during the past two days following multi-organ failure on 21 November.
