High voltage AUTA AGM comes to an end, Devashish & Amalendu elected President & GS

May 12: The Annual General Body Meeting of Assam University Teachers’ Association (AUTA) was held on 12 May, 2022. On this day, the election to the office bearers of AUTA was also held. It is after a long time that two panels of candidates faced each other during this election. The AGM followed by the election of the office bearers of AUTA for the year 2022-23 took place in the Bipin Chandra Pal Auditorium of the University.

The contesting panels of candidates were led by Prof Joyati Bhattacharjee, Professor, Department of Political Science and Dr Devashish Sengupta, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry. The Returning Officers of the elections were Prof Dibyojyoti Bhattacharjee, Prof Shahin Ara Begum and Prof Arup Barman. The counting came to an end around 6.30 PM on Thursday. Finally, the Returning Officers declared the results. The panel led by Dr Devashish Sengupta could manage to win 5 out of the 6 posts.

Results of AUTA Elections for the year 2022-23:

President:

  • Dr Devashish Sengupta: 152 votes
  • Prof Joyati Bhattacharjee: 92 votes

Vice President: 

  • Dr Lalthakim Hmar: 126 votes
  • Dr Mritunjay K Singh: 118 votes

General Secretary:

  • Dr Amalendu Chakraborty: 156 votes
  • Dr Sib Sankar Majumder: 86 votes

Joint Secretary:

  • Dr. Amit Kr Das: 134 votes
  • Dr Bishwa Ranjan Roy: 132 votes
  • Dr Abhijit Biswas: 113 votes
  • Dr Ponkhi Borah: 91 votes

Treasurer:

  • Dr Ajita Tiwari: 142 votes
  • Swarnadip Biswas: 96 votes
