School open during Holi in Karimganj! Locals hold protest & lock head teacher inside school
March 20: Classes were going on in full swing in a school at Karimganj district on the day of Holi. Though it seems to be strange, but such an incident occurred in a primary school under North Karimganj Education Block. This led to massive protest among the people of the locality. Infact, Mridul Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Karimganj declared local holiday on Saturday on the occasion of Holi festival. However, not paying any heed to the direction of the Deputy Commissioner, the head teacher of 1113, Balidara LP School identified as Abdun Nur decided to keep the school open during the day and continue regular classes.
This led to great resentment among the people of the village and ultimately when the head teacher refused to listen to the people, they locked him for almost half-an-hour inside the school. Locals alleged that inspite of repeated appeal to keep the school closed, the head teacher Abdun Nur turned a deaf ear. During the day, when people while playing holi suddenly noticed that the school was open, reached there and lodged severe protest.
However, the head teacher said that he has not received any holiday notice from the concerned department and therefore stated that he would continue the classes. Around 150 people parents and guardians reached the school and took back their wards by force. After which, people locked the head teacher inside the school. They then contacted District Education Officer Khairul Islam Hazari over telephone and informed him about the incident. They stated that if appropriate action is not taken against the head teacher, then they would launch a vigorous movement.
