Edu Minister to hold meeting on 18 June with stakeholders to decide on fate of Assam HSLC & HS

June 17:  In view of the current COVID-19 pandemic in the State of Assam and for taking a consensus decision regarding holding of Class X (HSLC) and XII (HS) examination by SEBA and AHSEC, a meeting of the stakeholders is scheduled at 3 PM on 18 June, 2021 in the Conference hall of Finance Department, Block- ’17’, Ground Floor, Janata Bhawan, Dispur. A letter to this effect was already sent to the participants of this meeting by Preetom Saikia, Special Commissioner, Secondary Education Department, Assam on 17 June, 2021. This meeting of the stakeholders on 18 June will be chaired by state Education Minister Ranoj Pegu.

This crucial meeting on Friday will be attended by the Principal Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Department, Principal Secretary Social Welfare Department, Principal Secretary Transport Department, President, Asom Sahitya Sabha, President, Bodo Sahitya Sabha, President, All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), President, All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), Chief Executive Member, Mising Autonomous Council, Regional Director Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Chairman, Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), Chairman, Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA), Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (M), Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup, Deputy Commissioner, Nagaon, Deputy Commissioner, Morigaon, Director of Secondary Education, Assam, Inspector of Schools, Kamrup (M), Inspector of Schools, Morigaon, Inspector of Schools, Goalpara, Pabitra Pran Bhattacharjya General Secretary, State Academic Council- Sibsagar, Bhuvaneswar Nath-  President, Assam Madhyamik Siksha Aru Karmachari Santha- Nalbari and Govinda Chandra Kalita, Secretary, Assam Madhyamik Siksha Aru Karmachari Santha- Guwahati.

Amid great unrest and tension among the students as regards the conduct of the postponed HSLC and HS Examinations by SEBA and AHSEC, a major decision was taken on Wednesday by the State Cabinet. The Cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma took the significant decision of recommending not to conduct the HSLC and HS exams amidst the prevailing situation.

Taking to his twitter handle, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “It was recommended by the Cabinet not to allow the exams due to prevailing #COVID19 pandemic. Final decision regarding HSLC, High Madrassa and HS final year examinations will be taken on June 18 in a meeting between Edu Dept & various other stakeholders.” Sources revealed that, the education department would finalise the evaluation modalities in case the cabinet recommendation gets approved in the meeting with the stakeholders.
