Jan. 25: Cachar Deputy Commissioner and District Electoral Officer, Silchar, Keerthi Jalli has received national award under the category of ‘Best Electoral Practices Award, 2021’ for ‘Voter Awareness’. She received the award from Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra on Tuesday at Delhi on the occasion of National Voters’ Day (January 25).

The EC announced the list of awardees for the national awards in different categories last Saturday. Also the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Assam, headed by Chief Electoral Officer Nitin Khade has been selected for the National Award for ‘Best Electoral Practices Award. 2021′ under the category of Best Performing State’ for ‘Election Management’. The selection is done based on the overall performance of various areas of election management during the Legislative Assembly Election conducted in the State in 2021.

It can be mentioned here that Cachar DC Keerthi Jalli under Systematic Voters Education and Electronics Participation (SVEEP), took several initiatives to spread awareness among the voters to exercise their constitutional right in the Assam Assembly election 2021. From sand art at the banks of Barak to creating national record by painting longest ever street art on East West corridor at Dolu, many initiatives were taken to sensitise the voters and attract them in the electoral process.

While sharing her ecstasy,DC, Cachar, Keerthi Jalli said, “It is a great honour for me to receive this award from Election Commission of India. It is the second time I have had the blessings to receive it at the National level. I dedicate this award to the 10,000 odd Govt employees of Cachar who have joined hands for successful conduct of elections in Cachar including BLOs, department heads, police, breastfeeding lady teachers who left their babies at home, health team and many others. We had several challenges along the way but we are proud to say that we managed an impartial election.”

“This year we had ensured highest number of ballots to senior citizens at their homes, a never before seen pandemic had to be handled, we had highest number of polling stations, highest manned woman polling stations, severe hailstorms on the day of election. As difficult as the journey was, the result was much more sweeter. Special credit to the district election branch working night and day, DC office staff, various election cells, my team of able officers who become a family away from family. It is even more rewarding to know our Election Officer Navanita Hazarika has got an award as Best ERO at state level. I specially thank Sumit Sattavan, Vibhor Aggarwal, Navanita Hazarika, Bikash Chetri and Rannvijay Das of SVEEP Cell for this national recognition. This recognition reinvigorates our spirits in pushing the envelope further in pursuit of good governance,” added DC Jalli.

“Under the umbrella programme of Garv Cachar, we celebrated all the elements that make Cachar special to remind voters that voting as a right is not just our pride but our legacy too. We celebrated Earth of Cachar through Rangoli, environment through Sand Art festival and kite festival,” Jalli quipped.

It is pertinent to mention that the other initiatives that were taken on the part of SVEEP, one was rolling out ‘Poll Express’ which travelled across the border areas and rural areas of the district demonstrating the voting process and encouraging the new voters to cast their votes.
