Droupadi Murmu takes oath as 15th President of India

July 25: Droupadi Murmu took oath of office as the 15th President of India on 25 July at the Central Hall of the Parliament. Chief Justice of India N. V. Ramana administered the oath of office to Murmu in the presence of Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union ministers, governors, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and a host of dignitaries.

She oath taking ceremony was followed by a 21-gun salute, after which Murmu addressed the gathering at the Central Hall as the 15th President of India. Dressed in a white saree with green and red border, Murmu took the oath of office in the name of God in Hindi to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and the law”.

Earlier in the day, President Murmu paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, father of the nation, at Raj Ghat and also visited Rashtrapati Bhavan where she was welcomed by former President Ram Nath Kovind and his wife Savita Kovind.
