Dressed in traditional attire, rally taken out in Silchar to commemorate the 400th Birth Anniversary of Bir Lachit Barphukan
way2barak, Nov.23: To commemorate the 400th Birth Anniversary of Bir Lachit Barphukan, a colourful rally was taken out on Wednesday in the streets of Silchar by District Administration and Police Administration, Cachar. The rally commenced from the Police Parade Ground and went around through all the major streets of the town.
Dressed in traditional attire, Deputy Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha, District Development Commissioner (DDC) Rajib Roy, Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta along with other officials and staff took to the streets. Colourful tableaus were also taken out in the cultural rally. Many cultural organisations of various communities too took part in the rally dressed in their traditional ethnic attire.
At 11 AM on 24 November, a symposium on “Assam History & Life of Lachit Barphukan will be held in which college & university teachers will deliberate of the topic. In the evening, a cultural programme will be organised at the same venue.
