Dist administration undertakes temporary remedial measures to stop erosion at Mandir Dighi area in Bilpar

June 3: Torrential rainfall submerged various parts of Silchar on Tuesday. In many areas, the rainwater not only submerged the streets and alleyways but also flooded ground floors of many buildings. On getting information of the disruption of civic life, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar Keerthi Jalli jumped into action.

At Mandir Dighi area of Bilpar in Silchar town, a considerable portion of the guard wall of the water body was broken by the rushing water. As a result, some parts of the street slipped into the ‘Mandir Dighi’. DC Jalli during her visit assured the local people that “Immediate restorative action is being taken to address the problems as long lasting solutions of improved culvert work may take sometime.”

DC Keerthi Jalli undertook rapid temporal measures at Mandir Dighi in Bilpar. On Wednesday, some temporary remedial measures out of filled-up EC bags & Geo bags has been done to stop furthur erosion & slogging works at Mandir Dighi site at Bilpar. It was informed that once rains subside, structural works will be undertaken.

Further, on Tuesday itself, an urgent meeting was called by Keerthi Jalli to address the issue of water logging in the town due to rainfall. DDC, Executive Officer of SMB, Circle Officer of Silchar Sadar, EE WR, AEE Territorial Roads, AE Town and Country Planning, Field Officer Silchar Sadar were present in the meeting. Vulnerable spots were identified and immediate temporary restorative works were asked to be taken. Projects awaiting approval and sanctions were also asked to be expedited.
