Dekho Apna Desh People’s Choice Campaign in Cachar College

way2barak, 8 Oct : Yuva Tourism Club of Cachar College organized an awareness session today to enable students’ participation in Ministry of Tourism’s “Dekho Apna Desh People’s Choice Campaign 2024.” Birupakshya Paul Choudhury, Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology and Teacher-in-charge of Yuva Tourism Club of Cachar College, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the need of exposure to various tourist attractions of Assam in, particularly those which are present in Barak Valley. He said that this would help the locals in promoting their heritage, culture, tradition, cuisine and historical importance. Upgrading an area as Tourist destination will not only enrich the region but also add to the socio-economic upliftment of the locals and preservation of the area by massess.

Dr. Sudip Kumar Das, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Bengali graced the chair in this occasion. He beautifully explained how Barak valley holds some of the very significant places and can become a tourist hub if properly studied and surveyed. With examples from Rabindranath Tagore’s contributions to Barak Valley’s Literary history, or Sepoy mutiny War memorial of Karimganj, he stressed upon the hidden gems of this region and asked the students to widen their own perception towards the region.
After the inaugural session, participants voted for the tourist attractions under 5 categories each; Spiritual, Wildlife and Nature, Adventure, Cultural & Heritage, and others. The participants received their digital certificates after completion of voting. Zaheer Khan, a student of Zoology, 5th semester delivered the Vote of Thanks.
