DDC Meeting: Deadlines set for completion of projects, schemes in Hailakandi
June 20: In view of the unprecedented COVID-19 situation, Deputy Commissioner, Megh Nidhi has set a deadline for completion of health related infrastructure in the district. Reviewing the status of progress of projects and schemes undertaken by major development departments at a meeting of District Development Committee for the first time ever since assuming office here on Saturday, Deputy Commissioner, Dahal instructed the PWD (Buildings) to complete the construction of health centres, doctors’ quarters at Bilaipur and Kalinagar and renovation of SK Roy Civil Hospital in view of coming of hordes of people from outside the district.
He also asked the PWD (Rural Roads) to carry out repairing of the roads leading to the hospitals and CHCs located in interior areas on a war footing in view of the prevailing situation. “The health related infrastructure projects must be accorded top priority and completed on a war footing,” he added. The Deputy Commissioner directed the Executive Engineer, PWD (Rural Roads) to complete the remaining stretch of the Chandipur-Bashbari grant road and the approach road to Dholai MG Model Model Hospital within the next 10 days. He asked the official to make a detailed proposal for end to end improvement and widening of roads in Hailakandi town areas. Dahal reviewed the status of progress of various projects under PMGSY, Signature Project, NABARD and SOPD.
The Deputy Commissioner asked the PWD (NH) to start repairing of the road from Dholeswari to Algapur within a week and to keep the stretch of the road to Bhairabi bordering Mizoram in a motorable condition. Dahal asked the Agriculture, Irrigation and Town and Country Planning to work in tandem for identifying the areas in which the district has huge potential for cultivating rabi crops and high value nutrition fruits. “We have to work in convergence and put in all our efforts to realise the full potential of the district insofar as rabi crops are concerned so that we can switch over from mono cropping to multiple cropping which will help to double the income of the farmers,” he added.
Dahal emphasised on the need to cultivate seedlings through community nurseries and asked the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Sericulture and other departments to spare their unused land for cultivation of seedlings. The Agriculture department has identified 80 hectares of land for rearing of seedlings. Reviewing the status of progress of mega piped water supply schemes, Dahal directed the Executive Engineer, Public Health Engineering department to complete the remaining portion of work of Greater Sheralpur, Kalinagar-Panchgram and Lala Multi Utility water projects within a stipulated period of seven days. Dahal asked the official to start the process of constitution of users’ committees for ensuring sustainability of the piped water supply schemes.
Reviewing the different schemes under Agriculture department, Dahal asked the officials for thorough verification under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi to ensure the benefits reach out to the real beneficiaries. The Deputy Commissioner asked the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department to keep adequate stock of medicine and vaccines for the livestock in view of the rainy season. He asked the department to close down those meat shops running in unhygienic condition.
Dahal asked the Legal Meteorology department to intensify raids against unscrupulous traders duping customers with the help of Food, Civil Supplies department and police. To achieve better results, Dahal said he would soon notify the constitution of a joint team for this purpose. For short and long term solutions to artificial flooding in Hailakandi town, Dahal said a committee will be formed comprising municipal board, town and country planning, PWD and other stakeholders shortly.
Citing the recent case of electrocution, Dahal asked the APDCL to ensure that there is no recurrence of such incidents due to snapping of wires and submergence of transmission lines due to water logging. The Deputy Commissioner asked the power department to expedite the process for extending electricity lines to un-electrified villages under the Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana and Saubhagya.
He asked the ASRLM, KVIC, DI&CC, Handloom and Textiles department to tie up with each other for identifying the local handloom products that can be promoted in a big way. Dahal asked the concerned agencies to submit an action plan for promotion of local handloom products within 15 days. Dahal asked the DTO to strictly enforce helmet and seat belt regulations and not to spare anyone flouting the norms.
The Deputy Commissioner while reviewing the status of progress of various projects and schemes under the Aspirational District Programme, stressed on the need for pragmatic outcomes benefitting the people at large.
The meeting was attended, among others, by District Development Commissioner, Vikram Dev Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner, EL Faihraem and district heads of different departments.
