DC Jalli sends strong message ‘No transmission via dead body of COVID victim’

July 30: The last rites of COVID-19 victim at Silchar crematorium passed off smoothly on Wednesday late evening. The Cachar district administration after getting the clearance from the State Level Death Audit Board for COVID-19 of 78-year-old Bimal Paul who passed away at Silchar Medical College and Hospital as due to COVID-19 disease, arranged for his last rites at the Silchar crematorium as per the COVID-19 protocols relating to disposal of dead body of a COVID victim and following all religious rituals.

Wearing a cotton mask, Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli attended the last rites at the crematorium along with Silchar MLA, Dilip Kumar Paul. By attending the last rites, the Deputy Commissioner conveyed the message loud and clear that there is no fear whatsoever of a dead body of a COVID victim spreading contamination.

In fact, Jalli has been in the forefront trying to drive home the message among the religious, community leaders and senior citizens regarding the misconceptions surrounding the dead body of a COVID victim spreading virus and appealed to them to spread the message that ‘once a person dies due to COVID, the virus, too, cannot thrive and dies eventually’. To press home this point, the administration even invited renowned Surgical Oncologist Padmashri Dr.Ravi Kannan to bust the misconceptions surrounding the mortal remains of a COVID victim.

“Disposal of dead bodies infected with COVID-19 is done in the safest and most hygienic way possible without causing any danger to residents of the vicinity and all guidelines and precautions are followed,” said Jalli adding, “Coronavirus is not transmitted via dead bodies and that the administration were following all guidelines prescribed while disposing of bodies of COVID-19 victims.’The Deputy Commissioner has urged everyone to dispel the wrong notions about transmission via dead body of a COVID victim and to accord the last respects to such a victim with due honour.
