DC Hailakandi asks Muslim religious leaders to refrain assembling at mosques on Eid-ul-Fitr

May 23: The Hailakandi district administration held a meeting with Muslim religious leaders on Saturday, seeking their cooperation in containing coronavirus in the district. Deputy Commissioner, MN Dahal held a meeting with the religioasion of Eid-ul-Fitr in view of the novel coronavirus outbreak.

Dahal told the leaders of the community that the best way to deal with the dreaded disease was to maintain social distancing norms and to wear face masks. “I appeal to the people of the district to not heed to any rumours and strictly follow guidelines of the state and central governments to win the battle over coronavirus,” said Dahal, adding, “People will have to maintain social distancing. Corona does not see caste or religion or region.” The administration advised the members of the community to celebrate the festivity at home and to maintain social distance while doing so to keep novel coronovirus away.

“They have responded positively and assured to extend full cooperation in this endeavour,” said Superintendent of Police, Pabindra Kumar Nath after the meeting. The religious leaders unanimously agreed to the fact that prevention was the only key to contain the virus and that they would appeal to and convince the people from the community to cooperate with the administration.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Health, EL Faihraem, Additional Deputy Commissioner, RK Dam and other officials of the administration were present. Representatives of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, All India Milli Council, District Haj Committee and other organisations participated in the meeting.
