Feb 27: The festival of “Mahashiva Ratri” is celebrated with great fervour across Cachar District. Devotees from all round the district and across Barak Valley throng the holy Bhubhan Hills to offer prayers to Lord Siva and seek blessings.

In view of the ensuing festival and to take stock of the preparations, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Keerthi Jalli visited the Bhuvan Hills on Saturday. To make the festival incident and crime free, Cachar district administration had taken stringent measures this time. A committee has been formed to monitor the proceedings of the festival at the Bhuvan Hills and special steps are being taken to check consumption of alcohol during the festival.

Deputy Commissioner climbed the hill upto the holy Shiva temple and offered prayers as well. During her visit, she was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dipak Jidung. I request the public to maintain decorum and follow the instructions. 2-3 lakh of people are expected to turn up for the festival. No alcohol will be allowed up the hill at any cost. After offering puja, people are requested to leave the spot at the earliest and prevent loitering and exploring to make space for other devotees.” The deputy commissioner also asked all to avoid plastic materials as far as possible.
