Daffodils School holds Debate & Spell Bee competitions as part of Silver Jubilee Celebration
August 25: The Silver Jubilee Celebration (2019-20) of Daffodils School, Silchar, kick started on 30 March amidst pomp and splendour. As part of the Silver Jubilee Celebration, year long events are organised by the school. On 25 August, 2019, Daffodils School organised Inter-school Debate and Spell Bee competition.
The topic of the debate was: “India has failed to grow up properly as a nation.” There were 9 teams in all. Each team comprised of two participants. The teams represented the host school Daffodils, Holy Cross School, South Point School, New Oxford School, Maharshi Vidya Mandir, Ramanuj Vidya Mandir, Sarla Birla Gyan Jyoti School The Speaker of the Inter-School Debate Competition was Sudarshan Gupta, Assistant Professor of Radhamadhab College, Silchar.
The debate was indeed a battle of wit. Almost all the participants performed exceptionally well It was a close finish and Astha Chakraborty of Daffodils School bagged the best debater’s award speaking in favour of the motion while Taposnigdha Sen of Maharishi Vidya Mandir became the best debater speaking against the motion.
Whereas, Maharishi Vidya Mandir represented by Sanchayita Bhattacharjee and Taposnigdha Sen became the best team while Daffodils School Astha Chakraborty and Hrituparna Bhattacharjee became the runners up.
In the Inter-School Spell Bee Competition, Jyotiraditya Chakraborty of Maharishi Vidya Mandir became the winner, while the 2nd and 3rd positions were secured by Ruksar Barbhuiya of New Oxford School and Mayuri Nath of South Point School respectively. Retired Subject Teacher of English of Adharchand HS School and a cultural activist Samar Bijoy Chakraborty conducted the Spell Bee competition.
The awards in all the categories will be given during the closing ceremony of Silver Jubilee Celebration of Daffodils School in 2020. Expressing his view, Subrata Dey, Principal of Daffodils School said, “These two competitions and many such others in the offing are a part of our Silver Jubilee Celebrations. We expect to conduct many more such events very soon. The celebration will come to an end with a mega closing ceremony on 31 January next year.”
