Cyclone: DDMA Cachar issues advisory
April 3: The Cachar District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has informed about the do’s and don’ts of the time before and after the onset of cyclone. The Cachar district administration DDMA have urged to abide by the rules to protect the lives and property of the people.
- Before the onset of the cyclone season, it is important to inspect your home thoroughly, secure loose tiles, and repair doors and windows.
- The branches of the tree next to the house should be cut off.
- The tin sheets that have become loose in the house should be repaired and brought to a strong position.
- Loose bricks, signboards, etc. on the wall which can be damaged by strong winds should be removed.
- The house should have a few wooden boards so that the glass windows can be covered as needed.
- In every house, there should be a battery-powered torch, adequate dry cell and kerosene-filled hurricane lights.
- Dry food should be stored for use in the event of a disaster.
- It has been suggested to demolish the buildings which are in useless and dilapidated condition.
Listen to the warning broadcast on the radio/ television etc. when the cyclone starts and stay alert. Share this message with others as well. You should not listen to rumours and refrain from spreading rumours. Government data must be trusted.
After the cyclone warning has been issued, evacuate the area around the river or large body of water. It is also advised not to take shelter in any open space and under trees during cyclones as there is a high risk of accidents. At that time, there should be a strong building or shelter. The outside doors of the house should be kept well closed. Turn off the switch on the main line of the electrical circuit during a cyclone. Stay with your family members during cyclones, keep dry food, drinking water, baby food, essential medicines, etc. with you.
If necessary, they have been asked to take shelter in the shelter identified by the disaster management authority. After the cyclone, they have been asked not to leave the shelter until further notice. Hurricanes can break trees and break electrical wires, leaving them in a dangerous position, so it is advisable to move with caution and drive.
In addition, it has been asked not to touch any electrical wires that are torn or hanging. Accurate information on the damage caused by the cyclone has been asked to be provided to the concerned disaster management authorities.
