Covid-19: DC Cachar orders closure of street vending & pop-up shops in various parts of Cachar

June 17: In order to put a brake to the increasing Covid cases in Cachar, the district administration is now adopting stringent measures. The daily report of the Joint Director of Health Services, Cachar indicates that the number of COVID-19 positive cases are still following an increasing trend in the district. Moreover, due to large gathering in weekly/ daily markets, the visitors/ consumers may not be able to maintain social distancing and other COVID-19 Protocols/ appropriate behaviour which may lead to a sharp increase in the number of COVID-19 positive cases. It is in this backdrop that Keerthi Jalli, Deputy Commissioner Cachar has decided to close street vending & pop-up shops in all Weekly/ daily Markets within Cachar District on continuous basis.

Issuing an order to this effect on 17 June, 2021, DC Cachar cum Chairperson District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Cachar- Keerthi Jalli stated, “With a view to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Cachar District, and by exercising the powers vested under section 34, sub-section (m) of the Disaster Management Act 2005 and as per the Assam COVID-19 Regulations, 2020 issued vide Order No. HLA.248/ 2020/6, Dated: 18/03/2020, do hereby recommend that the vending & pop-up shops in following markets of Cachar District will be closed with immediate effect and in force till further order.” The order will come into force with immediate effect.

This order shall be applicable within the periphery of the market areas of:

  • Udharbhond
  • Lakhlpur, Jirighat, Fulertol & Poilapool
  • SonabarighaL Baga, Nutan Bazar & Dholai
  • Borkhola & Srikona
  • Katigorah Chowronghee & Kalain.
