Covid-19 cut short the life of a retired ASEB employee from Public School Road, Silchar
May 22: The most striking difference between the 1st and 2nd wave of Covid-19 is the increase in the number of deaths. Along with the rest of the country, Assam too is witnessing a huge number of deaths of Covid patients on a daily basis. On Saturday, a total of 79 deaths were registered in the state. In Cachar district too, death of Covid patients are occurring almost everyday. Six Covid positive patients breathed their last at Silchar Medical College & Hospital in the last 24 hours.
Gayatri Das (69), a retired employee of ASEB and a resident of Public School Road, Silchar also succumbed to Covid-19 on Saturday. As per sources, Gayatri Das suffered from brain stroke a few years ago. As she was gradually recovering, she became afflicted with liver related diseases. However, she put up a brave fight and was getting cured gradually.
However, recently she was detected as covid-19 positive. As such, Gayatri Das was admitted at Silchar Medical College & Hospital on 18 May. But ultimately, she breathed her last at 11.20 AM on 22 May, 2021. This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. She has left behind her husband, Advocate Debabrata Das, a daughter (already married) and a son. Her last rites were performed on Saturday night. Her death was mourned by the people of the locality.
