To get the desired result, lockdown should atleast go on for another 2 to 3 weeks: Dr. Rajdeep Roy

Doctors engaged in treating COVID-19 patients at SMCH are all acclaimed physicians, says Silchar MP

April 9: Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) is catering to the treatment of COVID-19 patients of Cachar, Karimganj & Hailakandi. As of now, there are more than 100 beds at SMCH, whereas in the ICU, there are almost 8 to 10 beds. There are also ventilation support system for 6 patients. This was said by Silchar MP and renowned Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Rajdeep Roy in an exclusive interview with way2barak.

He said, “We have 3 COVID-19 positive patients now at SMCH. All of them are doing pretty well. The last case detected is slightly elderly. His oxygen requirement has increased but monitoring the patient. The health sector of government of Assam has also been activated with all the paramedics like the doctors, nurses. They are working almost overtime.”

He also said that the government has put up a massive effort. The Health Minister has come to Silchar thrice within a span of 9 days. The Chief Minister has also come to Assam on Wednesday and held a review meeting of the 3 districts, said the MP. He added, “I am very confident because doctors engaged in the treatment of the COVID-19 patients are all acclaimed physicians. We will do a good job as far as the management of COVID-19 positive patients are concerned.

When asked about speculations made by people regarding the extension of lockdown, Dr. Rajdeep Roy said, “My medical brain tells me that we will have to control the outbreak of COVID-19 further, and the only way of doing is by enforcing the law of lockdown by another minimum period of two to three weeks. If that is not done, all the good works that have been done by the government in containing the virus will be squandered. The lockdown of 21 days will also go in vain. So my medical sense tells me that lockdown should go on atleast for a minimum period of two to three weeks.”
