Couple nabbed by NIA from Karimganj on alleged links with Maoists released after interrogation

ওয়েটুবরাক, ৩ এপ্রিল : বরাক উপত্যকায় মাওবাদীরা সক্রিয় রয়েছে, আরও একবার সামনে এল এই  তথ্য৷ গত মাসেই কাছাড় জেলার পাতিমারা এক চা বাগান থেকে মাওবাদীদের বড় নেতা অরুণকুমার ভট্টাচার্য ওরফে কাঞ্চনদাকে গ্রেফতার করা হয়েছিল।

এক মাসের মাথায় তাদের সম্পর্কে বিস্তৃত জানতে কাছাড়, করিমগঞ্জ, ধুবড়ি ও ডিব্রুগড় জেলার ১৭ জায়গায় একযোগে অভিযান চালায় এনআইএ৷ করিমগঞ্জ জেলার পাথারকান্দি থানাধীন সোনাখিরা থেকে মাওবাদী সন্দেহে রাজু ওরাং ও পিংকি ওরাং নামের এক দম্পতিকে আটক করে গুয়াহাটি থেকে আসা এনআইএ-র একটি বিশেষ দল। টানা আড়াই ঘণ্টা জেরার পর অবশ্য তাদের বাড়িতে যেতে দেওয়া হয়৷

এদিন বিশেষ তদন্তকারী দলটি সোনাখিরায় রাজু ওরাং এবং তাঁর স্ত্রী পিংকি ওরাংয়ের ঘরে তল্লাশি চালিয়ে একটি ল্যাপটপ, ৬টি ছবি অংকন করার পেন্সিল, সহ বিভিন্ন দৈনিক পত্রিকার খবরের কাটিং, একটি মানচিত্র এবং দুটো মোবাইল সহ বেশকিছু আপত্তিকর সামগ্রী বাজেয়াপ্ত করে।

মাওবাদী নেতা অরুণকুমার ভট্টাচার্য ওরফে কাঞ্চনদাকে আটকের পর থেকেই অধিক তথ্য লাভে সক্রিয় হয়ে ওঠেছে পুলিশ সহ তদন্তকারী সংস্থা এনআইএ। তাদের অনুমান, বরাকের বিভিন্ন চা বাগানে গড়ে উঠেছে মাওবাদীর এক বিশাল নেটওয়ার্ক।

April 3: A suspected Maoist couple was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from Sonakhira Tea Estate in Karimganj district of Assam on Sunday. The couple was interrogated from more than 2 and half hours by the NIA. However, later on, they were allowed to go back to their home. The laptop recovered from them, which became the main object of suspicion at the initial stage by the NIA was also returned back.

CPI (Maoist) leader and a member of its central committee, Arun Kumar Bhattacharjee, popularly known as ‘Kanchan Da’, was arrested in Cachar district of Assam in the first week of March. Within a month, on 3 April, 2022, this suspected Maoist couple was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The suspicion became more multiplied on discovery of a laptop from a tea-labourer. However, the couple Raju Orang and Pinky Orang denied allegations of having any link with the Maoists. Later on, they were allowed to go by the NIA on condition of extending cooperation with the investigating agency.

As per initial reports, after the arrest of the Maoist top leader Kanchan da from Cachar, NIA has been keeping a close eye on the activities of several suspected people in Barak Valley. A team of NIA was keenly following Maoist activities in certain tea garden areas of Barak Valley, following which a couple alleged to be involved with the Maoists was arrested on Sunday from Sonakhira Tea Estate.

NIA, however, refused to make any comment on this issue on Sunday. Local police officials said that though they went with the NIA team, but they were unaware of any details. However, sources revealed that the father of Raju Orang who died two years ago had links with the Maoists.

Meanwhile, during the day, NIA carried on investigations at 17 places in Cachar, Karimganj, Dhubri and Dibrugarh. It was also learnt that a female, named, Saraswati Orang, alias Rima was arrested on Sunday from Naharkatiya.

The National Investigation Agency is the primary counter-terrorist task force of India. The agency is empowered to deal with the investigation of terror related crimes across states without special permission from the states under written proclamation from the Ministry of Home Affairs. At a time when senior Maoists are being arrested from Cachar district in Barak Valley, the National Investigating Agency (NIA) is exploring options to look for possible clues of Maoist base in South Assam.
