Congress burns effigy of Chinese President in Silchar
June 23: Angered by the killing of twenty Indian soldiers by Chinese troops in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley, Silchar District Congress Committee (DCC) burnt effigies of Chinese President Xi Jinping. During the event, Congressmen shouted slogans against China and vowed to boycott Chinese goods. Congress workers led by its district President Pradip Kumar Dey burnt effigy of the President of China and bowed to stand besides the martyrs of the Indian Army.
As many as 20 Indian Army personnel, including a Colonel, were killed in clashes with Chinese troops on last Monday night. “The blood of martyrs will not go waste,” said the President of Silchar DCC. They appealed to the government to give a befitting reply to China and teach them a lesson. “I demand from the President, Prime Minister and the Home Minister to restrict the sale of Chinese products in India. This is the time to bring them on their knees,” said Sanjeev Roy, Secretary of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee.
Present during the burning of the effigy were Congress District President, Pradip Kumar Dey, Sanjeev Roy, Secretary of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, Secretary APCC Amitabha Sen, General Secretary Silchar DCC Sujan Dutta & Rajesh Deb, Rahul Alam Laskar, Mohanlal Das, Deboja Sumonto, Raja Laskar, Bikash Singh, Debodip Dutta, Anjana Deb among others.
