CM Assam Himanta Biswa known as ‘Mama’; Question in KBC by Amitabh Bachhan goes viral

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma recently became a topic of a question on the popular TV show “Kaun Banega Crorpati” featuring Megastar Amitabh Bachhan. Since then, the clip of the video has become viral in social media. Amitabh Bachhan asked this question, “By which of these names is the chief minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, often addressed in the state?” to one Bharadwaj, who hails from Tezpur in Assam and was on the hot seat. Bharadwaj answered the question correctly as he chose the option ‘Mama.’ He won Rs.10,000 for answering this question correctly.

Himanta Biswa Sarma has become popular among the youths, particularly among the students as “MAMA” (Maternal Uncle). During the Chief Ministership of Sarbananda Sonowal in Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma was given the portfolio of Education. During his tenure as Education Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma gave scooty to all girl students who secured 1st division in HS Final Examinations. After that, the male students started appealing to Dr Sarma to also provide them two-wheelers.

During the canvassing of Assam Assembly Elections 2021, Himanta Biswa Sarma said to the male students, “Do boys want bullet bike in return of performing well in HS Examination?” Quite obviously, the boys cheered Dr Sarma and answered in the affirmative. He also asked them, “What colour bike do you want?” The boys gave various replies to this question. Himanta Biswa Sarma, however, said that, “What if the colour of the bullet is saffron?” He was welcomed with claps.

It was after this incident that wherever Himanta Biswa Sarma went for canvassing, the male students confronted him with a common question, “Mama, when will you give us Bullet motorcycles?” In Indian culture, “Mama” (Maternal Uncle) is very dear to the nephew and niece. Children usually are very fond of their “Mama” and also love to ask for gifts from ‘Mama’. BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma has gradually become the Mama of the students who asked for bullet motorcycles from their beloved ‘Mama.’ This nickname ‘Mama’ has now crossed the state borders and has become ‘national’ with a popular show like “Kaun Banega Crorepati” (KBC) featuring a question on “Himanta Mama.”
