Children taking Covid vaccine should not be on empty stomach: NHM Assam

Jan. 3: The vaccination drive for the teenagers in the age group of 15 to 18 has started across the state. 500 schools in Assam were turned into Covid vaccination centres as the state opened vaccines for teens on Monday.  Keeping March-April board exams in mind, the state plans to inoculate the teens with both the doses before that time. With over 20 lakh children in the 15-18 age group, Assam plans to vaccinate them all within 45 days and maximum within 60 days. This was stated by state Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma while inaugurating the statewide 15-18 age group vaccination.

Meanwhile, National Health Mission (NHM), Assam in a tweet stated, “It is advised that all the children taking vaccine are not on empty stomach.” NHM Assam further urged upon the parents to follow three steps:

• Make sure children are well fed before taking the vaccine
• They can  have snacks while waiting for the vaccine as well.
• For children without breakfast, an early mid-day meal may be considered.
