Chennai returned youth infected with corona, 3 hotels of Central Road sealed in Silchar

May 17: After a Chennai returned 28 years old youth was detected with coronavirus, certain administrative steps were taken by the district administration of Cachar. The youth a resident of Borthal T.E. of Cachar was kept in institutional quarantine facility in a hotel at Central Road, Silchar after he returned from Chennai on Saturday. As per protocol, his swab sample was taken for test at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). It was on Sunday evening, that the report of the youth came as positive. He was immediately taken to the COVID-19 ward at SMCH.

In an order issued by District Magistrate Keerthi Jalli on 17 May, it was stated that, to contain the further spread of the virus, the area surrounding the facility wherein the youth was kept under quarantine would be sealed immediately. As such, the area inside the following geographical boundaries is immediately sealed:

  • North: Hotel Divyam
  • South: Swagat Hotel
  • East: Central Road
  • West: Arun Kumar Chanda Super market Complex Hotel Centre Palace

To implement the above instructions, following restrictions were also imposed in the geographical area mentioned above:

  • No unauthorised entry and exit of the residents in the contained area will be allowed.
  • Vehicular movement is to be strictly prohibited.
  • Stricter enforcement of all statutory directions regarding social distancing.

District Magistrate Keerthi Jalli stated that the order is issued under the Regulations “The Assam COVID-19 Regulations, 2020” and shall be effective from 11.30 PM of 17 May, 2020 until further orders.
