Chemistry deptt of G.C. College makes hand sanitiser in their lab
March 18: The number of coronavirus cases globally topped 200,000 Wednesday. India is currently positioned in stage 2 of coronavirus outbreak as confirmed cases rise to 153. As Covid-19 patients continue to surge in India, sanitisers and masks have started to disappear from shelves with several stores and chemists selling the coveted items at 2-3 times their price to panicky buyers.
It is in this backdrop that the Department of Chemistry of Guru Charan College (G.C. College), Silchar has come up with an unique idea. The talented faculty members of the department of Chemistry of G.C. College has prepared hand sanitiser in their departmental laboratory. The faculty members then tested the sanitiser among the teachers of the college including their Principal, Dr. Bibhash Deb.
Speaking to way2bark, Dr. Subhas Debnath, Assistant Professor of the Department of Chemistry of G.C. College said that they have prepared the hand sanitiser in their own lab on Wednesday. The sanitiser prepared by them contains ethanol (70%), isopropyl alochol (70%), glycerol and little hydrogen peroxide. He further said that only isopropyl alochol and alovera gel also serve as hand sanitisers.
Apart from Dr. Subhas Debnath, Krishna Chandra Das, Abhijit Das, Dr. Sarbani Dutta, Dr. Gopa Sinha, Dr. Ashraf Hussain also used the hand sanitiser prepared by the Chemistry department among others.
