March 18: When the number of coronavirus cases globally topped 2,00,000 on Wednesday, the WHO highlighted that the need of the hour is to spread awareness among the people. It is from this perspective that Aswash NGO in association with Navya Botique took in hand an unique endeavour of making the poor and disadvantaged section of the society aware about the do’s and don’ts associated with the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

With this aim in view, Arundhati Gupta, General Secretary of Aswash, Piya Roy Barman, its Vice President along with Debdutta and other members set out in the streets of Silchar town and tried in their own little way to make the destitute found loitering at Silchar Railway Station learn about the coronavirus and how to keep them safe from it. They also demonstrated the process of washing hands with soap amidst the little kids who are usually seen near Silchar Goldighi Mal selling balloons. They also distributed soap among these people.

Speaking to way2barak, Arundhuti Gupta said, “Coronavirus is a global threat and awareness about it can only save humanity from its clutches. We all are privileged to know about it from television, newspapers and social media. But there are many poor and destitute in our town who do not have any access to media or social media and so they are vulnerable to great risk. In order to make these poor people aware about coronavirus and how to remain safe is a major task. It is from this perspective, we have undertaken this awareness campaign among the disadvantaged.”
