CBI nabs senior railway officer for accepting ₹1 crore bribe; raids conducted at 20 locations

Jan. 17: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday carried out searches at 20 locations across the country in Assam, Delhi, Tripura, Uttarakhand and Sikkim. During the raid, the CBI arrested chief administrative officer of NF Railway (Construction) Mahinder Singh Chauhan for allegedly accepting bribe of Rs 1 crore. Chauhan is a 1985 batch officer of the Indian Railways Engineering Service (IRES) and was posted at NF Railway (Construction) headquarters in Maligaon.

It was allegedly that Mahinder Singh Chauhan received the bribe to extend favors in granting contracts of project of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) to a private company. CBI has also raided the house of Hem Ch Bora, additional chief engineer of NF Railway (Construction) at Zoo Road in Guwahati.
