Cachar Police launches Helpline for senior citizens

May 25: In a praiseworthy step, Assam Police has started a helpline for senior citizens living in Assam and staying alone. The help request can be sent through the following WhatsApp numbers: 6026900973, 6026900976 and 6026900968. Apart from these centralised helpline numbers, district wise helpline numbers were also provided.

In pursuance of this step by Assam Police, Superintendent of Police (DSB), Cachar has also come up with a notification on 25 May to stand besides the elderly during this pandemic. The Mobile Nos. of Police Control Room 60269-00266 and 70860-21473 have been designated as Helplines for the Senior Citizens. The same nave peen published adequately through Social Media.

All Officers-in-Charges of Police Station and In-Charges of Ops, PPs, PICs were directed to swiftly attend to any such distress messages received through the Police Control Room and take all necessary steps to address the problem at hand. They were also directed to intimate Dy. Superintendent of Police (HQ), Cachar, Silchar and Dy. Superintendent of Police (DSB), Cachar, Silchar regarding the matter.

Alternately, they were also directed to engage VDPs and Nagarik Committee to identify senior citizens who are living alone or may need any assistance during this pandemic and thereafter provide any assistance that they need. They were asked to inform Dy. Superintendent of Police (HQ), Cachar, Silchar and Dy. Superintendent of Police (DSB), Cachar, Silchar every time such assistance is provided.

The following services will be provided by Cachar Police to the senior citizens:

• Facilitating movement for COVID vaccination during lockdown restrictions, if slot is booked.
• Arranging a personal visit to check on well being, if the senior citizen is alone and in need.
• Facilitating essential supplies/ medicines (not related to COVID treatment and if not available locally).
• Liaison with health authorities.
• Any other distress call.
