Cachar Fishery Department nabs racket involved in smuggling fish to Mizoram

May 04: Cachar District Fishery Department nabbed a racket involved in smuggling of fishes from Silchar to Mizoram at Silcoorie under Sonai constituency in Cachar district and recovered 3.75 quintals of fishes. On Monday, the raid was carried out by the District Fishery Development Officer Rafikul Haque. After the operation, the recovered fishes including rohu, mrigal, katla and common carp, were brought to Silchar Sadar police station.

They were thereafter auctioned in presence of Deepmoy Thakuria, Executive Magistrate, Cachar, and an amount of Rs. 30,000 was collected as revenue. The district fishery department informed that such type of operations will be conducted in the days to prevent smuggling of fishes and if anyone is found involved in illegal smuggling of fishes, then strict action will taken as per law.
