Cachar district administration intensifies move against violation of traffic rules

.10: A joint inspection drive was conducted at Kalain, Katigorah area since Monday against illegal plying of vehicles in compliance with the order of Deputy Commissioner, Cachar.  It is pertinent to mention here that an emergent meeting was held at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner’s office on last Friday in connection with an accident at Katigorah in which five students of NC College, Badarpur died.

In the meeting, all the representatives of political parties and students of NC College spoke about the various problems faced by the people at Katigorah, Kalain areas and highlighted the issues which are to be resolved by the District Administration. They also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner enlisting their demands.

In that meeting, Katigorah MLA, Amarchand Jain requested the District Administration to conduct road awareness campaign by MVI and concerned departments and to initiate proper steps for checking of licences by the departments. While listening to the grievances put forth by the various political parties and students’ union, Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli directed the DTO to step up enforcement and Executive Engineer, PWD to take necessary steps in this regard.

Following the directive, a raid was conducted by Circle Officer, Katigorah, Pranjit Deb with the help of enforcement wing. Enforcement Inspector, Om Prakash Upadhyaya. Assistant Enforcement Inspectors, P.Terong, M.Sinha, Balbir Singh and OC Katigorah, H.Singh also took part in the raid. The inspection drive started from Monday and around 50 number of cases were registered by the Transport department for violation of the Motor Vehicle Act. It is reported that a sum of Rs 3,00,000 was realised by way of fines.

Meanwhile, roadside jungles were also cleared on the National Highway by PWD, NH department. Mobile announcements were made as against the illegal roadside encroachments and also against illegal parking of auto rickshaws at Chiragi Bazar, Chourangi Bazar and Kalain market.

In this connection, an awareness programme was also conducted by the team. During the awareness meeting held with various markets associations and vehicle association, Circle Officer Katigorah, Pranjit Deb said, “We have started joint inspection on Monday. We will continue to conduct the raids in areas under Katigorah and Kalain and strict action will be taken as per law against the drivers and owners for violating provisions of MV Act”.
