Cachar DC’s pro-active stance wins people’s confidence; journey through ravaged area earn accolades from netizens
Jalli tours flood ravaged areas in Borkhola & Salchapra Development blocks
May 25: Cachar DC Keerthi Jalli visited various flood affected areas under Borkhola Development Block including Chutrasangan village of Chesri Gaon Panchayat on Wednesday.
DC Jalli specially visited the flood ravaged areas to monitor the relief distribution activities in various non-camp areas of Borkhola Development Block along with Borkhola Block Development Officer (BDO) Herry Pauls Fernandez and other officials. She expressed her satisfaction noticing the pace at which the relief distribution works are done by the Block staff and elected Panchayat members, inspite the area being located at a difficult terrain. Approximately 400 people reside in this area. The pictures of the DC visiting the area covered with mud on foot earn wide accolades among the netizens.
The Deputy Commissioner also took stock of the situation and held discussion with concerned officials regarding other issues, such as, river erosion and livelihood possibilities post- flood with the people of that area. She laid emphasis on the construction of a dam in that area to check the river erosion during monsoon season and also pointed out that for resolving those issues she will hold a meeting with the concerned departments after the flood situation elapses. It was informed that fodder for the cattle was also distributed in the flood affected areas.
Earlier, on Tuesday, Cachar DC visited flood affected areas of Rajnagar and Kumarpara GP under Salchapra Development Block and took stock of flood situation in these areas, She also interacted with the flood affected people and inspected the distribution of relief items among the flood affected people. Jalli also visited the eroded sites of Manikpur and Roypur on foot and examined the extent of damages caused by the flood water. Jalli instructed the concerned department to close down the road to Neargram as heavy vehicles carrying bricks were plying which caused major damages to the roads.
At Rajnagar, she directed the officials to set up medical camps and also interacted with the local people regarding the repairing and construction of the Manikpur END dyke. Its worth mentioning that local residents who opposed earlier to give their land and created a hindrance in the process of construction of the dyke, later, with the special initiative taken by DC Jalli got convinced and assured their cooperation with the district administration and government in every possible way.
She also sought opinion from local representatives regarding the measures to be taken to tackle the flood and erosion issues permanently. In this regard, the local representatives requested DC for construction of a new sluice gate. DC Jalli assured them to discuss this matter with the concerned department at the proper forum. Salchapra Block development officer, Rajjyoti Borah also accompanied DC Cachar during her visit to Rajnagar.
