Cachar bags prestigious SKOCH silver award for its response to eradicate malnutrition

Law-makers of Cachar lauds the efforts of district administration

Jan. 7: The project PARVARISH of social welfare Department under flagship of Deputy Commissioner, Cachar Keerthi Jalli has been awarded the SKOCH Award for its socio-economic approaches to eradicate malnutrition among the children of age group 6 months to 5 years.

The programme launched during the poshan maah 2020 by Deputy Commissioner, Cachar in presence of District Social welfare Officer, aims to reduce the number of malnourished children who are BPL and could not afford nutritious food. The main objective of this mission is to provide nutritious food to such children and improve their nutritional status as a result of positive intervention of several Govt agencies, local bodies, NGO’S and local businessman. Overall 800 children got support till now under this mission PARVARISH, out of which 704 children successful recovered from severely acute malnourished stage.

During this poshan maah, 100% severely acute malnourished children under age group of 2 years to 5 years were adopted by community, M.P and MLA’S of different constituency under PARVARISH and 90% children were recovered from their early stage of malnourishment. Based on the result of this mission, Social Welfare Department, Cachar along with District Administration, Cachar presented the entire project in front of the judges of SKOCH Group and it was conferred with SKOCH Award for its innovative approaches for creating nutrition awareness.

Minister of Forest, Environment,Excise & Fishery Department, Parimal Suklabaidya has expressed his pleasure over the achievement of Cachar Administration. Sharing his reaction, The Minister said, “Heartiest congratulations to Cachar administration for bagging the prestigious SKOCH award. This award will provide the administration the impetus to eradicate malnutrition totally among children and also inspire other districts to emulate the efforts of Cachar administration in the fight against malnutrition.”

While sharing his reaction MP Silchar, Dr Rajdeep Roy said, “I Congratulate Cachar DC and her entire team for bagging the prestigious award. The award will go as symbol of devotion to work and dedication in this pandemic situation. Health and Nutrition are priority areas of our Government. Health remains one of the key areas in our quest of building an inclusive and new India”.

Reacting on the achievement of Cachar Administration, MLA, Silchar, Dipayan Chakraborty said, “This is a proud moment for Cachar district. The initiative is an endeavour to fight malnutrition through multi-model intervention to prevent further diseases. We remain firmly committed to provide affordable and quality healthcare to the poor, needy and disadvantaged sections of the society. The emphasis on health and nutrition will surely make a lasting contribution in furthering healthcare to every nook and corner of the country”.

Cachar DC, Keerthi Jalli also shared her ecstasy on this remarkable achievement. She said, “It’s a matter of great pride and honor for us as the Cachar District Administration has been conferred with SKOCH silver award for its response to eradicate malnutrition. This prestigious award would be an inspiration to others in this critical time”.

Instituted in 2003, SKOCH Award salutes people, projects and institutions that go the extra mile to make India a better nation.
