Cachar Admin takes initiative for set up of innovative project under Jal Shakti Abhiyan at PMAGY village
Nov. 7: Catch the Rain Campaign, an innovative programme under Jal Shakti Abhiyan for the revival of Heritage Water Bodies by involving exclusively 100 women folks which also includes the Job Card Holders was held at Gorerbond Pt -1 on Saturday. Succeeding Udharbandh constituency , Cachar District Administration has taken up another ingenious project ‘under Jal Shakti Abhiyan’ aiming to provide drinking water facility in one of the Pradhan Mantri Abas Gram Yojana Village ‘Gorerbond part 1 under Borkhola constituency of Cachar District.
The programme was organised by the Cachar District Administration. Deputy commissioner Cachar Keerthi Jalli graced the occasion as the chief Guest. While addressing the gathering Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli said “Jal Shakti Abhiyan is a campaign for water conservation and water security in the country and an important part of jal shakti abhiyan is that it will focus on five aspects ,water conservation and rain water harvesting, renovation of traditional and other water bodies,reuse of water and recharging of structure, watershed development and intensive afforestation”.
Elaborating on the objectives of the mission Jalli said, “The government aims at providing drinking water to every household on priority and in a sustainable manner and for this water conservation interventions will be supplemented with special intervention including the development of the block and district water conservation plans, promotion of efficient water use for irrigation. Jal shakti abhiyan should bring positive changes in people for water conservation.”
DC Jalli also expressed her satisfaction for organizing such programme and committed for amalgamation of school so that children can attend school regularly. She further emphasized on training for the fish farmers which will be organised shortly from fishery department to explore their livelihood and assured that necessary steps will be also taken from her end for immediate construction of roads etc.
It is pertinent to mention that the inhabitants of the village have been carrying on their livelihood without proper water facility for last forty years. The provision of water facility would be made by clearing an antique pond which is 100 years old along with an installation of solar tank. The clearance of the said pond will be done with the help of job card holders involving 100 women. The amount involved in the project will be Rs. 8.25 lakh.
It’s worth mentioning that the clearance work of the pond will be executed by the construction committee Borkhola constituency and consequently will be handed over to committee of the adjacent temple for further maintenance. The programme was also attended by District Development Commissioner, Cachar, Rajib Roy, Senior planning Officer, Transformation and Development Branch, Ruli Daulagupu, Assistant Executive Engineer, P&RD, Cachar, Saptajit Dey and other dignitaries.
