Debt ridden, 5 members of same family commits suicide in Kokhrajhar

Nov. 2: In an unfortunate turn of events, five members of the same family allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves inside their house in Gossaigaon under Kokrajhar district of Assam on Monday. The father has been identified as Nirmal Paul, (52). The other family members who were found hanging in their house are Nirmal Paul’s wife Mollika Paul (45), and their daughters Puja Paul, Neha Paul, and Sneha Paul. The family were a resident of Tulsibeel in Gossaigaon.

The locals said Nirmal Paul was running his family as a sub-agent of Bharat Gas at Tulsibeel Market. A trader in the market claimed Pal had collected a huge sum of money from people to provide LPG connections through his sub-agency but failed to deliver on his promise due to the lockdown and the change of rules by oil firms. Paul’s eldest daughter, Puja was working as a teacher at Tulsibeel Jatiya Vidyalaya. His second and third daughters were studying in class XII and X, respectively.

Superintendent of Police Rakesh Raushan said that Prima facie, it appears to be a suicide case, however, investigation is on for finding out the details. A suicide note was also found but its contents are not immediately known.
