Boy steals mobile from a shop at Sonai Road, moments recorded in CCTV

Nov. 6: Criminal activities are on the rise in Barak Valley. In the last few days several incidents of chain snatching and stealing money and ornaments have been registered from various parts of Cachar and Karimganj. Snatching money and gold ornaments has become a very common affair. However, a CCTV footage from a mobile shop has surfaced recently in social media where a youth can be seen running away with a brand new mobile. The incident took place around 7.10 PM on 6 November.

Infact, the 1.10 minutes recording from the CCTV brought forth a shocking tale of robbery. A youth in the guise of a customer came to a shop ‘Rainbow Infotech’ at Sonai Road, Silchar for purchasing a mobile. While asking the salesman for showing mobile handset, the youth was busy talking with someone on his mobile. The salesman showed the youth a dummy mobile set.

It then appeared from the CCTV recording that the youth selected a particular mobile set and the salesman then brought out a real mobile sealed pack. The youth took the mobile box in his hand and was till then busy talking with someone in his own mobile. Meanwhile, another customer came inside the shop and started to talk something with one of the salesman.

Just at that moment, a bike stopped on the road just outside the mobile shop. The youth saw that a bike has stopped near the shop. Immediately, he ran away with the mobile box and sat on the bike. Within no time, the bike went away so fast from the spot that hardly anyone there got any chance to move. At once, some boys from inside the shop ran after the bike but by that time, it had disappeared in the night.

Such an incident of robbery in front of so many persons is indeed a matter of great concern. Miscreants seemed to have no fear of law. People over there raised a strong demand of nabbing the culprits by the police. It seems from the CCTV footage that it is not the work of any isolated individual but a concerted effort involving many. While one comes inside the shop in the guise of a customer, another man tries to engage the salesman at the same time, while the 3rd one waits with a motorcycle outside the shop.
