Both Govt. Boys & Sai Vikash claims 2nd position holder Daisy to be their regular student!

May 25: “I am overwhelmed by the performance of Daisy Pathak. She has proved it once again that government schools do have the capability of performing well. At this happy moment, I announce a cash reward of Rs. 50,000 for Daisy as a mark of inspiration for her future strides.” These were the words used by Silchar MLA Dilip Kumar Paul for Daisy Pathak, who has secured the second rank in the merit list in Higher Secondary Final Examination (Science), 2019 conducted by Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC).

MLA Paul was more happy because Daisy stood second in HS (Science) in the state by studying in a government school. She was a student of Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Silchar. He personally came to Government Boys School just after declaration of results to congratulate her. Also present in the school was Dr. Bivash Deb, President of Governing Body of Govt. School, Silchar with a box full of sweets.

But little did MLA Dilip Kumar Paul or GB President Bivash Deb knew that within a short period of time, a private educational institution located at Sonai Road, Silchar would claim before the media that Daisy Pathak was a regular student of their college. Though surprising, yet it is a fact that Sai Vikash Junior College claimed that Daisy is a student of their college.

Speaking to way2barak, Rabindranth Reddy, Administrative Officer and a member of the management of Sai Vikash Junior College, Silchar proclaimed, “We very much expected Daisy to get a position in HS Final because during HS 1st year also she scored around 93 percent. So we were sure that she will top. She was also regular in the college.” While replying to a query as regards college timings, Mr. Reddy said, “Our college timing is from 8.15 AM to 3.15 PM. Further, we have again doubt clearing classes from 6 PM to 9 PM. It is not like private tuition. It is part of study hour. The same set of students who attend day classes come for evening classes also.”

Though Sai Vikash claims to follow CBCE curriculum but Mr. Reddy said that the HS section of Sai Vikash is following the curriculum of state government. Mr. Reddy said, “There is now no difference between CBSE & SEBA. Both are using NCERT books now.” When we said that Daisy and her parents have said early during the day that she was a regular student of Government Boys HS School, Mr. Reddy fumbled and replied, “This confusion should be cleared by the media from the respective student and guardian. Whatever information I had, that I have given to you. I know that she was a regular student of our institution.”

Surprisingly, in an exclusive interview to way2barak, diametrically opposite claim was made by Parveen Sultana, Principal of Government Boys HS School. She said, “Daisy was a regular student of our school. We do have permission to admit girl students in the HS section of our school. She was a brilliant student. In HS First year exam she scored around 97 to 98 percent marks. She used to do coaching at Sai Vikash.” When we said that Sai Vikash has claimed that she used to regularly attend their classes from 8.15 AM to 3.15 PM, Mrs. Parveen said, “We have shortage of teachers in our school. So when there were no classes then we used to allow her to go for coaching.” She then said, “Sai Vikash does not have any recognition from the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council.

There remains no doubt regarding the intellectual capability of Daisy Pathak. But the question which still remains unanswered is how can a person become a regular student of two different educational institution at the same time? Is Sai Vikash a junior college or a coaching centre? Is Sai Vikash Junior College affiliated by the AHSEC? Is the HS Section of Sai Vikas following CBSE or AHSEC curriculum? If the claim of Sai Vikash is true, then why did the MLA Silchar praise her as a student of Govt. Boys? How can both the institutions claim to have her daily class attendance with them? Is there any unholy nexus between Silchar Government Boys HS School and Sai Vikash Junior College? Similar questions remains unanswered for 19 other youth along with Daisy who are claimed to be the regular students of both Sai Vikash & Govt Boys? The truth can only be ascertained by an investigation by the district administration or by the Education department of Government of Assam.
