Both Assam & Mizoram CMs to withdraw all FIRs; Atul Bora & Ashok Singhal to visit Aizawl for a dialogue
Aug 2: Both Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga and Assam Chief Minister, as a goodwill gesture have agreed to withdraw all FIRs filed by them in the aftermath of the border violence which took place on 26 July, 2021.
Infact, on Monday, Mizoram Chief Minister, Zoramthanga took the lead and informed through his official twitter handle at 5.24 PM that, “In order to build a conducive atmosphere for amicable solution to the Mizoram-Assam Border dispute & to reduce the plight of suffering citizens,I have directed Mizoram Police to withdraw FIR dt. 26.07.2021 filed at Vairengte, Kolasib District, Mizoram against all the accused persons.”

Reciprocating the goodwill gesture, Assam Chief Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma at 7.19 PM informed, “I learn that Honble CM Zoramthanga has asked Mizoram Police to withdraw FIR dt 26.7.21 against our officers. I heartily reciprocate this positive gesture and ask Assam Police to withdraw cases against DC Kolasib and SDPO Virengte.”

Further, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma in aid of an early amicable resolution, has decided to send his cabinet colleagues Atul Bora and Ashok Singhal to Aizawl on 5 August 2021, for a meaningful dialogue. He wrote, “Assam stands committed to ensuring peace on its borders,paving the way for a peaceful & developed North-East.”
Earlier, the Mizoram Police filing an FIR against Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Inspector General (IG) of Assam Police Anurag Agarwal, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Devojyoti Mukherjee, Cachar Deputy Commissioner (DC) Keerthi Jalli, Cachar Superintendent of Police (SP) Vaibhav Chandrakant Nimbalkar, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Sunnydeo Choudhury, Dholai Police Station officer-in-charge Sahab Uddin and 200 unidentified Assam Police personnel.
Assam Police too filed FIR against Mizo officials at Dholai Police station against-
- Dr H. Lalthlangliana, MCS, Deputy Commissioner, Kolasib district
- Vanlalfaka Ralte, MPS, Superintendent of Police, Kolasib district
- David JB, MPS, Additional Superintendent of Police, Kolasib district
- C Lalrempuia, MCS, Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Vairangte
- Bruce Kibby, MPS, Additional Superintendent of Police, 1st Indian Reserve Battalion
- Thartea Hrangchal, MPS, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Vairangte
However, it seems that good sense prevailed and the Chief Ministers of both Assam and Mizoram have agreed to withdraw the FIR’s filed by them.
