‘Book Bank’ & ‘Toy Bank’ inaugurated at Rotary by Parimal, Aminul & Kishore
August 15: On the occasion of the 73rd Independence Day Rotary Club of Silchar along with its associates Inner Wheel Club and Rotaract celebrated the day in a befitting manner. Promising a secured smile in the faces of all those who are in need of help, Rotary undertook a bouquet of programme which began with hoisting of the tricolour in the club premises.
The day began for the members of Rotary Club of Silchar, Inner Wheel Club and Rotaract Club by organising sports among the students of Functional Literacy. This was followed by a mega Eye Check up Camp at the club premises from 10 AM. Art Competition in collaboration with Inner Wheel Club was also held after that. A colourful cultural programme was next on the cards which was performed by the students of Rotary free Dance Learning Centre.
The next item on the schedule was distribution of completion certificates for six months diploma course to the Students of Rotary M.N.Kar Sewing School and distribution of Dictionary among 25 underprivileged students of Netaji Bidhya Bhawan.
The most innovative idea of the day was the inauguration of a ‘Toy Bank’ and ‘Book Bank’ at the Rotary Club. The said inauguration programme was graced by Aminul Haque Laskar, Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly, State Minister of Forest & Environment Parimal Suklabaidya and MLA Kishore Nath. President of Rotary Club of Silchar Dr. Siddhartha Bhattacharjee, Jhumki Saha-President of Inner Wheel Club of Silchar, Rtn Taimur Raja Choudhury along with the other members of the club welcomed the dignitaries.
In his speech, Dr. Siddhartha Bhattacharjee expressed thanks to the dignitaries for paying visit to the club and elaborated the objective behind setting up of a ‘Toy Bank’ and ‘Book Bank’. Dr. Bhattacharjee said, “This Book Bank will serve two-way purposes. Those who are willing to give are welcome to donate books and those who want to take books for reading can do so. This is basically an arrangement for the underprivileged students. The Toy Bank will also be one such unique endeavour for the underprivileged.”
Both Aminul Haque Laskar, Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly and State Minister of Forest & Environment Parimal Suklabaidya praised the various philanthropic activities undertaken by Rotary, Inner Wheel & Rotaract Clubs of Silchar.
They also highlighted that selfless service in the truest sense of the term is only possible by the Rotarians. It is a prestigious organisation.The Deputy Speaker said, “Rotary always gives us honour but it is high time that now we should honour Rotary for your service towards humanity.”
The ‘Toy Bank’ and ‘Book Bank’ was then inaugurated. This was followed by a community feast. Expressing delight, Jhumki Saha, President of Inner Wheel Club Silchar said to way2barak, “We are indeed feeling privileged to stand besides the underprivileged of the society. We are indeed striving for real freedom which includes freedom from hunger, freedom from deprivation, freedom to become self-dependent and sustainable development. It’s a long road ahead of us and we are confident to move along to make the world a better place to live in.”
