Black marketing of vaccine in Silchar! Guilty will not be spared: MLA Dipayan Chakraborty

Situation grave, MLA Silchar suggests to go for 15 days lockdown in Cachar

May 15: After the media exposure of black marketing of Covid-19 vaccine at the ‘Waste Management Centre’ within the office of the Additional Joint Director of Health Services located in the SM Dev Civil hospital campus, a Magistrate level enquiry was initiated by the Cachar district administration. Meanwhile, Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty assured zero tolerance towards such scrupulous activities. The MLA was speaking with the journalists at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar after a Covid review meeting which was chaired by Parimal Suklabaidya, Excise, Forest & Environment and Fisheries, Government of Assam.

In query to a journalist about the ongoing vaccine black marketing of vaccine at Silchar Civil Hospital reported by the media, Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty said, “I too have come across such media reports about corruption in administering vaccine at Silchar Civil Hospital. I raised this issue in today’s review meeting. I categorically told the Deputy Commissioner and Minister Parimal Suklabaidya that if media reports are found to be true, then such type of corrupt practices will malign the image of our government. So I urged upon then to take strict measures in this regard.”

MLA Chakraborty further added, “I too demand strict punishment for all those who are involved in black marketing of Covid vaccine. This vaccine in today’s world is the most valuable life saving device and any corruption in its administration would not be tolerated. I will personally visit Silchar Civil Hospital and enquire into the matter. At this moment, I could assure the people of Silchar that our government would not tolerate any such corrupt practices.”

Regarding the issue of lockdown, Dipayan Chakraborty said, “Look, last year there were multiple Covid Care Centres in Cachar district. Patients with Covid were initially sent there and only the serious one’s were sent to Silchar Medical college & Hospital (SMCH). But this time, the situation is different. There is too much load on SMCH. Covid patients from entire Barak Valley are coming to SMCH. From this view point, even the ICU beds at Silchar Medical would in all possibility be filled up within 2 to 3 days. But if the number of cases goes on increasing more rapidly, then the condition of Barak Valley will fast deteriorate. Considering all such aspects, I suggested during today’s review meeting to go for 15 days lockdown.”

As regards too much load on Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) in this Covidphase, MLA Silchar said, “For the 40 lakh people of Barak Valley, the only place of treatment is SMCH. So I specifically suggested today to start Covid Care Centres in Silchar so that the load of SMCH can be eased to a great extent. Today’s meeting was basically to get feedback from various quarters about the Covid situation. We have all shared our views. Probably on next Wednesday, another cabinet meeting will be held where all such suggestions would be reviewed and further decision will be taken by the state government.”
