BJP MLA warns free distribution adversely affect the future of the Assamese

way2barak, June 16 : BJP legislator from Khumtai constituency, Mrinal Saikia, has raised concerns over the culture of distributing freebies by political parties, warning that such practices could adversely affect the future of the Assamese community.

Saikia, who recently visited Kerala, made the comments in a video message posted via social media platform X on Saturday, June 14. “I want to help people, but I don’t believe in 100% freebies,” he captioned the post. “These practices will win some elections but ruin a generation.”

In the video, Saikia is seen interacting with a handloom weaver at a textile shop as part of his visit to study rural tourism in Kerala. Highlighting the importance of self-reliance, he further stated that rural tourism was enabling people to earn with dignity.

Saikia also remarked that the emphasis on the dignity of labour was key to sustainable development, and that a lack of respect for labour could be detrimental to the Assamese community.
