BJP leader, prime accused in SI recruitment scam Diban Deka surrenders

Sept. 30: BJP leader and a prime accused in the Assam Police Sub Inspector (SI) recruitment scam Diban Deka, who remained traceless for the past ten days, has surrendered before police in the night on 30 September. Sources revealed that Diban Deka surrendered before Patacharkuchi police in the newly-formed Bajali district. He was then brought to Guwahati the same night by top police officials. However, the ringmaster of the scam, former DIG, PK Dutta is still absconding.

Police has already issued lookout notices against Deka and former DIG of Assam Police PK Dutta. Earlier, Assam Police declared a reward of Rs 1 lakh to anyone who can provide information about the duo. Following the search operations conducted by the crime branch of Guwahati police at city-based Thank You Lodge, evidences point towards Deka’s involvement in the scam. Deka is believed to be in constant touch with a number of senior lawyers in Guwahati, seeking legal remedies.

Taking to his Facebook wall on 24 September, Diban Deka wrote, “I have done BJP for 24 years; I will never let the party and the government be in danger! I was involved with the company that was examining the ′′ SI ′′ of Assam Police on 20/9/2020! I found the question paper via What’s App at 11 am. At the same time I informed Pradeep Kumar sir through Gautam Mess… The circle of Assam police has been torn in the question paper, many big people are involved. Many dishonest officers of Assam police are involved in this circle. There is also an officer involved who has secretly killed many people. He can kill a small person like me at any time, for which he had to leave Assam and take a stand in another state. When the situation is completely relaxed, I will openly inform the media myself….”

However, state DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta has denied the involvement of Assam Police in the scam which was alleged by Diban Deka in his Facebook post. Meanwhile Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that none would be spared if found responsible for the Assam Police sub-inspectors’ recruitment scam.
