BJP expels its Kishan Morcha leader from primary membership for involvement in supari syndicate
Feb. 19: Pulok Gohain, BJP state General Secretary expelled Prabir Paul, General Secretary of Kishan Morcha from the primary membership of the party. In a letter addressed to Prabir Paul on 19 February, Pulok Gohain stated that on the basis of the compliant received from the district committee of Guwahati and also on the basis of reports published in the media, it has become evident that the activities of the former has maligned the image of the party. He was alleged of being involved in anti-social activities. As such, on the direction of Bhabesh Kalita, BJP State President, Prabir Paul was expelled from the primary membership of the party.
It needs mention here that on Thursday night, a truck full of Burmese supari which came from Mizoram was detained by the police at Lailapur and found around 125 bags of beetle-nut in the vehicle. On checking the documents, the police became suspicious and on this basis detained one Prabir Paul, who identified himself as the General Secretary of BJP’s Kishan Morcha, Guwahati. Along with Prabir Paul, two others Sanam Uddin Khan of Cachar and Subrata Dey of Hojai were also detained by Cachar Police.
Though the police has raised serious doubts about the documents of supari trade recovered from the vehicle, but BJP leader Prabir Paul, the owner of the consignment reached the Lailapur Police Station with some documents claiming the consignment to be legal. However, the investigating officers were not convinced and rather arrested the trio who were earlier detained.
Meanwhile, Prabir Paul said, “I am an active members of BJP and is also the General Secretary of BJP’s Kishan Morcha, Guwahati. I am a member of respectable party and hold a respectable post. So I just could not do any illegal work. I have legally procured the supari by following all import rules. I have given to the police all legal and valid import documents. I have paid Rs.17.50 lakh as duty for 10 ton supari to authorities at Champai in Mizoram as per the rules laid down by Assam Govt. I am confident about the law of the land and is hopeful to get released soon.” On Friday, Cachar Police produced the trio at the court. All of them were then sent to judicial custody.
