BJP Dist President held for manhandling election official in Tripura

way2barak, April 29 : Police arrested a BJP leader in Tripura on Monday for allegedly manhandling a presiding officer during the second phase of polling in Tripura East Lok Sabha seat on April 26, officials said.

A police official here said that North Tripura district President Kajal Das was arrested by the police after the Assistant Returning Officer of Bagbassa assembly constituency filed an FIR against him on April 26 for manhandling a presiding officer during the voting in the Tripura East Lok Sabha constituency.

However, the police later produced Das in a local court, which granted bail to the BJP leader.

The North Tripura district superintendent of police has earlier constituted an inquiry committee led by Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer to probe the case.

In a separate development, North Tripura District Election Officer has served a show cause notice to BJP MLA Jadab Lal Nath for misbehaving with a Booth Level Officer in the same Bagbassa assembly constituency during the second phase of polling in Tripura East Lok Sabha seat on April 26.
