On assuming the post of the Chief Minister of Assam, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma gave a call for ‘Drug Free Assam.’ Acting on this, repeat offenders now onwards will be detained without bail for a maximum period of 1 year.
DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta tweeted, ” We are taking our fight for a #DrugFreeAssam a notch higher! Govt of Assam on 29 May, issued orders under Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act to take 6 high profile drug traffickers under Preventive Detention.”
