Leo’s at Silchar pledges to spread awareness on sex abuse & ways to prevent it
December 8: On the occasion of Leo International Day on 5 December, the members of Leo Club of Silchar Central along with Leo Club of Silchar Vision and Leo Club of Silchar organised a press meet in connection with the recent incident of rape and brutal murder of a veterinarian. The Leos’ resolved to undertake a vigorous campaign against the ongoing incidents of rape in various parts of the country.
Addressing the newsmen, Leo Anupriya Deb said, “On the occasion of International Leo Day, we the members of the four Leo Clubs of Silchar have pledged that throughout the year, we will carry out workshops, sex education , various awareness program wherein we can educate the people about sex abuse & ways to prevent it.”
Explaining about the steps they would adopt, Ms. Deb said, “We can go to the primary schools and teach the young kinds, specially the girls about what is good touch and what is bad touch. We strongly believe in equality. We are not portraying that girls are weak. We just want equality everywhere. We just need to educate society and change their mindsets.
The members of Leo Club also said that there were already a lot of strict laws in our in our country, but unfortunately the implementation part of these laws are very poor. They assured that the.Leo’s of Silchar will give their best effort in bringing about change in people’s mindset. In this connection, they also contemplated to send memorandum to the Prime Minister, President of India ,Governor of Assam and Chief Minister of Assam through the Deputy Commissioner of Assam with an appeal so that strict legal action be taken immediately against those involved in heinous crime against women.
