Barak Valley registers 87 Covid +ve cases on Saturday, 86 discharged & 2 deaths at SMCH

There are 816 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

July 10: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually decreasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Saturday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 87 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. Further, during the day, 86 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three districts of the valley. At present, there are 816 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Friday, Barak Valley registered 109 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Saturday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 62 positive cases   (It was 57 on Friday)
  • Karimganj: 18 positive cases (It was 35 on Friday)
  • Hailakandi: 07 positive cases (It was 17 on Friday)

A total of 62 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Saturday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 3,617 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 43 persons were found positive, whereas 19 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 18,154, whereas during this phase, 17,604 patients were discharged. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 377. Also, 28 patients were discharged during the day.  The Covid-19 situation in Cachar gradually is gradually improving. There has been substantial decline in the number of daily positive cases. However, the last 24 hours (5 PM on 9 July to 5 PM on 10 July) witnessed the death of 02 Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Saturday evening. Both the deceased are from Karimganj district.

They were identified as Parimal Paul (82) from Srigouri in Karimganj district and Nepal Chandra Das (78) from Badarpur in Karimganj district.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 10 July, there were 109 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 50 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 59 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 11 patients were put under ventilator support and 72 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 12 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 09 of them were discharged.

Hailakandi registered 07 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday. Of the 07 positive cases detected on Saturday, 06 of them have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) whereas 01 person was detected positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 106 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,489 RAT tests and 313 RT-PCR tests were done. 16 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 7,611 (both 1st & 2nd wave).

As of now, a total of 4,083 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 17 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Friday. Till date 47 persons died due to Covid-19 in Hailakandi district. On Saturday, a total of 1,956 were administered 1st dose and 202 were given the 2nd dose.

Karimganj registered only 18 fresh COVID-19 cases on Saturday. The district has currently 333 active COVID-19 cases, while 42 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Saturday. 3,174 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 35 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Friday.

On Saturday, out of 1,33,308 tests, 2,391 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 5,32,084. The positivity rate in the state is 1.79 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 228 positive cases during the day. Further, on Saturday, 24 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 4,812. The recovery rate is 94.86 percent. On Saturday, 2,391 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 5,04,723 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged. At present, there are 21,202 active cases in the state.

Further, during the day, 24 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 24 deceased, 04 each in Golaghat & Tinsukia; 03 each in Dibrugarh & Sonitpur; 02 each in Jorhat, Karimganj & Sivasagar; 01 each in Charaideo, Dhubri, Hojai & Nagaon. The death tally of the state now stands at 4,812.
