Barak Valley registers 831 Covid +ve cases on Friday, 310 discharged & 11 deaths recorded

Active cases 5,177 in Barak Valley

May 28: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Friday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased once again. A total of 831 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Thursday, Barak Valley registered 729 positive cases. At present, there are 5,177 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. Further, a total of 369 patients were discharged after recovery from the 3 districts of the valley on Friday.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Friday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 534 positive cases   (It was 486 on Thursday)
  • Karimganj: 149 positive cases (It was 123 on Thursday)
  • Hailakandi: 148 positive cases (It was 120 on Thursday)

A total of 534 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Friday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 7,355 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 422 persons were found positive, whereas 112 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Friday night. With this, the total number of Covid cases in 2021 reached 9,026 in 2021, whereas during the year, 5,882 patients were discharged. Also, 310 patients were discharged during the day. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 3,037.

Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 27 May to 5 PM on 28 May) witnessed demise of 11 more Covid-19 positive patients including 2 children at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) and South City Hospital. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board as per the protocol. Out of the 11 deceased, 06 are from Cachar district, 03 from Karimganj & 02 from Hailakandi.

The deceased at SMCH were identified as Rajen Ahmed Laskar (40) from Dhanehari, Part-II, Cachar, Dhirendra Chandra Das (72) from Majpara in Karimganj district, Ritesh Kumar (15 months) from Motinagar in Cachar, Ayaz Uddin Laskar (60) from Meherpur, Silchar, Mani Palam Mali (93) from Badarpur in Karimganj,  Chandan Paul (63) from Durga Shankar Lane, Ambicapatty, Silchar, Lila Nath (67) from Lala in Hailakandi district, Surajit Singha (39) also from Lala in Hailakandi, Tanvir Jaman (03 months) from Ashimganj in Karimganj district and Dwijendra Chakraborty (78) from Rangirkhari, Silchar.

Dr Sukumar Sinha (80) from Kanakpur Road, Silchar was admitted at South City Hospital on 23 May. He, however, passed away at 11.30 PM on 27 May.

Hailakandi registered 148 new COVID-19 cases on Friday. Of the 148 positive cases detected on Friday, 132 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 16 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 1,091 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,834 RAT tests and 333 RT-PCR tests were done. 10 patients were discharged during the day. It needs mention here that 120 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Thursday. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 5,874.

As of now, in the 52,877 persons have received the 1st dose of the vaccine (irrespective of age), whereas, 16,147 have been administered the 2nd dose in Hailakandi district.

Karimganj registered 149 fresh COVID-19 cases on Friday. Of the 149 active cases detected on Friday, 141 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test and 08 under RT-PCR. The district has currently 1,949 active COVID-19 cases, while 49 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Friday. 2,931 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 123 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Thursday.

On Friday, out of 1,22,977 tests, 5,436 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 3,98,010. The positivity rate in the state is 4.42 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 595 positive cases during the day. Further, on Friday, 80 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 3,168. On Friday, 5,760 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 3,40,178 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged

Further, during the day, 80 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 80 deceased, 09 are from Kamrup Metro; 07 from Cachar, 06 from Karimganj; 05 each from Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Jorhat & Tinsukia; 04 each from Darang, Lakhimpur & Sivasagar; 03 each from Barpeta, Goalpara, Hojai & Sonitpur; 02 each from Bongaigaon, Kamrup Rural, Karbi Anglong’ Morigaon, Nagaon & Nalbari; 01 each from Kokhrajhar & South Salmara. The death tally of the state now stands at 3,168.
